1884 antique Victorian crazy quilt most likely from Sayre, Pennsylvania. Beautiful fabrics and hand embroidery with machine piecing and appliqué on black velvet. There does not appear to be batting, it has a muslin backing. The edge is finished with the front brought to the back. One quilt block is hand embroidered with "Mother, age 52, 1884." This alone is special, as most quilts are not signed by the maker. Several silks are in disrepair with some discolorations as well. There may have been some repair work on this quilt. A hand written letter accompanies this quilt which is very interesting in the historic provenance of the quilt.
